To deepen government-enterprise-university collaboration and boost the innovative development of science popularization in the metal smelting sector, on January 20, 2026, a delegation led by Tian Yu (Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director) and Xie Hui (Section Chief) of the Changping District Science and Technology Commission (hereinafter “Changping STC”) visited the Changping Innovation Park of University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB). They held a special exchange on science popularization with the Technical Support Center for Prevention and Control of Major Accidents in Metal Smelting (hereinafter “the Base”).The meeting was convened in the First Meeting Room (B3-3-04, West Zone) of Changping Innovation Park. Cai Aihui (Director of the Administrative Committee of Changping Innovation Park), and Yang Jianhong, Wang Min, An Lu (Deputy Directors of the Base) attended the session, which was presided over by Deputy Director An Lu.

Yang Jianhong delivered a full introduction to the Base’s project construction. He noted that the Base focuses on core areas including major accident prevention and control in metal smelting and online monitoring/inspection of safety hazards, and has established a complete scientific research platform and technical support system. While leveraging its strengths in research and innovation, the Base prioritizes science popularization, striving to translate professional research outcomes into accessible popular science resources to advance industry safety literacy and public scientific awareness.

Bian Huiting, head of the Base’s fourth platform, gave a dedicated report on the Base’s science popularization practices. She systematically reviewed the Base’s efforts in integrating science popularization resources, organizing activities, covering target audiences, and planning future work, reflecting the Base’s commitment to empowering industrial development and serving the public through science popularization.

In the discussion session, the two sides held in-depth talks on advancing science popularization. Cai Aihui detailed the status and development plans of national-level platforms hosted in the park. She stated that Changping Innovation Park, as a key hub for high-end innovation resources, has gathered multiple national research platforms covering materials science, intelligent manufacturing, safety prevention and control, and other critical fields. With strong research capacity, top-tier talent, and complete hardware facilities, the park provides broad space and solid support for science popularization.

Tian Yu fully affirmed the Base’s achievements in integrating scientific innovation with science popularization. She emphasized that science popularization in metal smelting is vital for promoting safe industrial development and raising public safety awareness. Changping STC will actively act as a bridge to support the Base in pooling quality resources, innovating popular science formats, and expanding its influence. She also offered constructive suggestions on implementing the Base’s science popularization activities and coordinating resources in line with regional science popularization arrangements.

The two sides had thorough exchanges on practical challenges in science popularization and reached broad consensus on resource sharing, joint events, and building a distinctive science popularization brand. This visit established a regular cooperation platform between the Base and Changping STC, and clarified key priorities and pathways for science popularization.Moving forward, the two sides will take this meeting as a starting point to deepen government-enterprise-university coordination, integrate research, policy, venue and other resources, innovate popular science content and communication methods, and advance substantive development of metal smelting science popularization. This will inject new momentum into the intelligent and safe development of the industry and the progress of science popularization.
